Strategy needs engineers early

Board conversations often stop at intent: modernise, become a platform, move to the cloud. The missing layer is the one engineers already live in. Coupling. Data ownership. Release risk. Skills. The cost of keeping yesterday's systems alive while building the next ones.

We put that layer on the table early so the plan can be sequenced, staffed and operated. Otherwise it collapses at the first integration.

Technology consulting that cannot be implemented is a report. Engineering that starts without a sequence is a rewrite. The useful middle is a plan that names the systems, the order of work and who runs the result.

That is also why delivery and operations should not be a later vendor. If the strategy team will not still be there when the first interface fails, the strategy was incomplete.
